Retro25
Now in its 25th year the “Retro” has recently undergone a makeover, with a new organising team and a new format and work is well underway to put together an event that will do the accolade of a silver jubilee proud!
We tried a different approach last year with a different format and hope to build on that format, taking on comments from Competitors, Marshal’s and Spectators alike to make it an event tailored to the needs and wants of everyone involved.
This year we have moved dates slightly and the CircuitRetro now coincides with the Halloween weekend, running from Friday 29th of October to Sunday 31st. Again this year, thanks to the continued support of Lisburn City Council and the Premier Inn Hotel, the event will return to Lisburn and the Premier Inn as a start and HQ for the weekend. The team hope to get the event underway from Lisburn City Centre at midday and head straight for Wallace Park, a popular test last year followed by a loop of 3 new tests in the Hillsborough area. We will then venture back to the familiar territory of Nutts corner for a mix of new and old tests over the land of the old airfields in the area. Then it’s back to HQ and some dinner while night falls before we venture back out to traverse the countryside on the Night Navigation section of the event.
The Saturday leg of the event will start with a trip to the new territory of Castlewellan for some closed road regularities in the forests of the area, before returning to Newry and an extended version of last year’s Gullion regularity. The overnight halt will be back in the Premier Inn HQ with an evening of entertainment planned for all competitors and officials.
The Sunday leg will wind down the Ards peninsula to Kirkistown Racing Circuit to what we believe is the first special test on the Retro to be over 5 miles long, and for good measure we will do it twice. We then head for the grand finale of tests in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter in the shadow of the famous Harland and Wolfe cranes “Sampson” and “Goliath”.
We will also be introducing a new element to this year’s event, Teams! Teams will consist of 3 cars from any class, make or club and will be seeded together on event. One team will come out of the event victorious and will receive a new perpetual trophy as well as being seeded first on the road on next year’s event when they return to fight for their title.
We will round off the event with a gala dinner back in Lisburn to adorn the winners of this Titanic event.
